Looking at the two Sage Software sites, and not knowing which is the new one and which isn’t is hard to decipher. While the colours are the same (greens and greys)everything else appear different, so much so that if you didn’t know what Sage does then you could be easily mistaken for thinking that the  two websites advertise two different things.

I find both the websites quite cumbersome. There is a lot of information on both, but set out differently. If you know what you are looking for then it is relatively easy to find. However, if for example, you are looking for a product but aren’t sure exactly what product you need, then as the choice is so great it can be hard to know what to go for. Having said that, both website give descriptions, with the new website offering tool tips to further explain different titles.

On the flip side there is a lot of information. So if you don’t know what you are looking at, then there is a lot of information to help explain everything. The old website has a warmer friendly feel, but the new one arguable has a better lay out. While there is a lot of information on the home page, it would appear that it has all the information one might need to go straight to the place they are looking for. The only point I would make a note of on both websites is that neither have an About Us section which could be beneficial to someone who is new to the site or new to Sage.

At this moment in time the Store part of the site is the same on both and hasn’t been updated. I do not know if this is because the old store works so well they don’t want to change it or because the new one (if there is a new one) hasn’t yet been implemented yet.

At a conference with Webcredibles last week they were talking about making changes to websites. While they were talking about both the good and the bad aspects about changing a website they also mentioned that change isn’t always easy for do on a website. But I think in the case of Sage their new website won’t hinder them and customers will see an informative new site.
